Lightning Bolt breaks 100m World Record

Yesterday Evening, Jamaican Usain Bolt beat Tyson Gay on the 100m at the Reebok Grand Prix Athletics meeting.

Being only 21 years old, he broke the previous record by 0.02 hundreds of a second, to set the new fastest time to 9.72 seconds.
He was a bit lucky with the tailwind (1.7m/sec) being just under the maximum allowed wind (2.0 meters/sec), but you still have to be very very fast. cheese

The previous record holder was his compatriot Asafa Powell.

I can’t wait to see him, Asafa Powell and Tyson Gay competing against each other at the Olympics in China in about 2 months. Probably they won’t break the record again there, because of the hot weather, but it will give Usain Bolt some satisfaction if he wins.

He said himself, this record doesn’t mean a thing if I don’t win at the Olympics. The record can be broken every day, the Gold at the Olympics, only every 4 years.

Is this Top Gear’s Stig?

A few minutes back I saw the local news here. As most of you now I’m living in the nicest part of Belgium, Limburg. And the race circuit of Zolder is almost in my backyard. Now it happens to be that the people of Top Gear rented this particular race track for a couple of days to make some shoots.

One of the things they did was drive around the track, or part of the track with some customized cars. They made a double-decker car to race in. The one that sits below controls the speed and brakes and the one on top steers. From the few things I’ve seen on the news it must be lots of fun to drive this way. cheese

But at the end of the short video, they showed the Stig without a helmet!

Here’s the link to the video I’m talking about, thx to www.TVL.be

Now the only thing we have to work out is it really the Stig or are they just messing with us.
I did a little research and compared a few pictures of known race drivers, but till now I can’t seem to recognize him.

Anyone of you recognizes him? Shout your names here, and we’ll investigate it further.

Update!!!!

Thx to some friends of me, we think we found out who this bloke is. It’s German’s, yes that’s right a German driver, Tim Schrick. The resemblance is hard to miss.

Stig without a helmet on the original footage from TVL.be and Tim Schrick next to it.

A Tribute

This video from yesterday’s match between Club Brugge and Westerlo says enough about the loss of Club Brugge’s 26 year old striker Francois Sterchele.
A fitting tribute to a player that always smiled.

It gives me the shivers every time I look at it, this is soccer also.

Francois Sterchele (26) Dead

Last night on his way home, Francois Sterchele (26 years old) died due to a traffic accident. For an unknown reason he lost control of his Porsche Cayman S and crashed into a tree.
In his first year at Club Brugge, he scored 11 goals, not as much as last year when he ended up at the top spot with 21 goals for Germinal Beerschot, but he managed to get is top transfer to one of the bigger teams in Belgium when he signed a five year contract at Club Brugge.

Although I’m a fan of another team, it was always a joy watching him play. You could see he still had lots of fun when playing soccer, that’s what made him as good as he was I think. He stayed normal like every other guy.

Club Brugge and his family and friend have lost a great friend, a marvelous player and an excellent teammate today.

This weekend the last soccer matches of the season in the Belgian competition will be played, but I’m convinced that every team will take some time just before kickoff to honor Francois Sterchele and his family and friends.

Eduardo da Silva broken leg

Yesterday I saw some shocking images on TV when I was watching BBC’s Match of The Day.
In the match between Arsenal and Birmingham City, Eduardo da Silva broke his leg after a mean tackle by Martin Taylor from Birmingham.

Only 3 minutes in the play he tackled Eduardo. He’s certainly out for the rest of the season and maybe his whole football career is at stake. I certainly hope he’ll be back as soon as possible.
With this injury he even can’t go to the European Championship in a couple of months.

Arsenals manager Arsene Wenger was furious after Taylor’s tackle and said that Taylor has to be banned from playing football ever again. But after the match when everyone calmed down a bit he took back his words.
Martin Taylor himself is devastated with Eduardo’s injury and hopes he gets well soon.

This reminds me of a Belgian player who played in the Premier League for Sheffield Wednesday a couple of years back. Luc Nilis had to end his career after he collided with another player.  Hopefully Eduardo can play again!

On YouTube you can find some clips showing the tackle and replay, but I’m not going to show you these ones. I found another movie with still images of the tackle.
I warn you, if you’re little bit faint herded, don’t push play!!!
