SEO tips, tip nr 1

SEO is all about making sure your site can be found by the search engines.
After my previous discovery that this site has a SEO Score of 98%, I started thinking, why not share some tips with my readers. So as from today I will create a series of post over the next few weeks that are all about making sure you get your SEO fixed on your own blog or site so you to can have a SEO Score of 98%. (I like to brag cheese)

Probably you all read about SEO elsewhere and most of the times you already know today’s tip, but I want to make sure you’ll be rewarded for using it. This you can’t find on many other sites.

My first tip in this series of posts is link your keywords and make sure they’re used on other sites to link to your site.

For example, from the start of this blog I used the keywords “Million dollar challenge” to link to this blog from other sites. Every time I subscribed to some kind of blog or site where you can leave your link, I’ve used these particular keywords. Or if you ask other site owners politely to link to our blog in return for a link to their blog or site, they’ll probably will do so.

If you search in Google using these keywords, you’ll see you’ll be getting around 500,000 results. My site is ranked on the 5th place. This means that everyone who searches on these keywords will see the link to my site without even going to the second page of the results. An advantage of being linked on the first page is more hits of course.

So really think carefully about which keywords you’ll be using to connect to your site. Ask yourself the question, how do I want to be found? If you got yourself an answer, then look at your competition for these keywords. The more competition, the more effort it’s going to take to rank higher. Or if you play your cards right the more hits you’ll receive if you figured out your way to Google’s first page.

And let me be the first one to help you with it. Of course there’s a little catch to it.
If you figured out the keywords you want to use, let me know and I’ll be sharing them in some upcoming linklove posts. Use the contact page or send me a mail (info at the1milliondollarchallenge.com) with your keywords and a brief description of your site or blog, max 50 words.

But before sending the mail, make sure you got a little post up and running about my site and put the link to this post in your mail. I’ll make sure your site will be featured in one of my future posts and you’ll get a permanent listing in my Link Page. Remember this is a PageRank 3 blog since last update, so you’ll be getting a decent backlink back to your site as well.

You can make the post as long as you like, but I would like to see an article with at least 50 words in it, that’s not so hard I think.
You can write about how fabulous you think I am, how good this site is , … cheese
No just kidding, make an honest post out of it, you’re totally free in about what you write.
The only thing I ask from you is that you use the following keywords: “earn easy money” to link to http://www.the1milliondollarchallenge.com

So will you be in my future linklove posts?

CeBit 2008 was fun

Yesterday I went to CeBit in Hannover, Germany. What a long day it was.

One of my colleagues picked me up at my home around 3.45am. From there we went to another colleague and then on our way to Hannover. About 450km later we arrived at CeBit, well on time.
At 9am the doors opened and we could get in. We made a little plan in front, so we figured out which of the 27 hall’s we sure need to see. Every other hall we could see after that where extra cheese

The most impressive stand I’ve seen was the IBM stand, it wasn’t only well designed, and pretty nice, it was also very big!
They displayed their latest mainframe the Z10 and their total Blade and server solutions.

image

Furthermore we’ve seen some very nice water-cooled racks that will keep a lot of servers very cool without the need of an air-conditioning.

What actually did surprise me was the amount of vendors that where offering the same kind of products.
Being in the IT for almost 9 years now, there where lot’s of vendors I never heard of before.

Last year CeBit welcomed over 400.000 visitors, but I doubt they will top that this year. In just a few hours we went through the halls we planned to see and we didn’t had the impression that there where many visitors there.  After this we visited all the other hall’s and only stopped at those boots that displayed some interesting stuff.
One nice picture I would like to share with you has nothing to do with IT itself, but a fine car like this Cobra is worth a post no matter what topic.

image

Garmin also displayed their products, so I could take a look at the new Garmin forerunner 405, it has the same features as my Forerunner 305, but it’s a LOT smaller.
This is the first GPS heart rate watch from Garmin that actually looks like a normal watch.  Awesome work Garmin! Maybe I’ll sell mine a buy one myself, but I’m pretty happy with my 305. cheese

Around 5PM we had visited every hall and decide that it was time to go home. On our way back we stopped to get some food and drove another 450km back to home. A long day, believe me smile

Adobe AIR released to the public

Just a few hours ago, Adobe released their Adobe Air application to the public. Adobe Air is especially developed to build rich Internet Applications that deploy to the desktop and run across multiple operating systems.

I’ve just installed it on my portable to test it and I must say I’m pretty impressed.
I went to the Adobe Marketplace and downloaded and installed the Google Analytics Reporting Suite.
Filled in my account and voila Google Analytics on your desktop. Works like a charm.

On their marketplace they currently have about 35 applications that are written for Adobe Air, but this number will only increase in the next few weeks, as more and more people will see the benefits of this new tool.
Some applications that are available are: The Google Analytics Reporting Service, SnapShooter by Safari, FotoBooth, StockQ, …

If you would like to develop your own application for Adobe Air, you can download their SDK kit, Flex 3 SDK, Adobe Air extension for Dreamweaver and flex Builder 3 from the tools page.

Going to CeBit

Last week I received a mail from a sales person at IGEL, telling that if I needed some tickets to attend CeBit, I just had to send her a mail and she’ll send some. I immediately mailed back to thank her and told her that tickets are always welcome. This Monday I received a letter with 5 tickets I can use to go to CeBit. Thx to the nice people at IGEL and especially my contact person there.

You don’t know what CeBit is?

CeBIT is the world’s largest trade fair showcasing digital IT and telecommunications solutions for home and work environments. The key target groups are users from industry, the wholesale/retail sector, skilled trades, banks, the services sector, government agencies, science and all users passionate about technology. CeBIT offers an international platform for comparing notes on current industry trends, networking, and product presentations.
Deutsche Messe AG has organized CeBIT in Hannover each spring since 1986. Over 6,200 exhibitors from around 70 countries and some 430,000 visitors from all over the world attended the last CeBIT.
This year, I will be one of these 430.000 visitors. cheese
CeBit will open its doors at Hannover, Germany from March 4 until March 9.

I will take some pictures while I’m there to make some posts out of it afterwards.

What about you, is anyone of you going?

Stumbling Friday – 10 Free tools every IT needs

Today the 5th stumble I came across with was Mikel Alexander’s ComputerSight website and more particularly his 10 free tools every IT needs post.
With this list he’ll explains the tools he’s using every day so he can do his job on an easier way.
I’m glad I came by this stumble because I’m in the IT myself, so I can compare it with my knowledge and tools I use daily.

1. Logmein.
He’s right about this. If you’ll have to give some remote support and Microsoft’s RDP isn’t working, this is for sure one tool you can use to check the remote system.

2. PSTools from Microsoft.
With these tools you can info from remote systems via the command prompt. I’m not using these tools in particular. If I need some quick remote info I mostly use the ‘rexec’ command. This also allows you to execute commands on a remote machine and display the result on your command prompt. It’s a bit like the ‘net admin’ command like on IBM’s OS/2 environment, but the ‘net admin’ command is much much better.

3. Ultimate boot cd.
Again a tool you can’t live without if you’re working in the IT. A series of useful tools burned on 1 bootable cd so you can for example rescue your disk, recover deleted files, …
I’m using Hiren’s boot cd for this. It’s pretty similar, but I think it’s easier to use, but that’s my personal opinion.

4. Daemon tools.
For me personal this is the first tool I install after a fresh install of my OS. A few weeks back I Installed Vista Enterprise x64 and had some trouble installing the latest version of daemon tools. So a little tip for those who have the same trouble, don’t install the latest version of Daemon Tools on your Vista 64-bit, but install version V4.09HE. This version has an older STPD driver then the newest Daemon Tools and that’s the reason why it didn’t work on my 64 bit Vista. Oh, Daemon tools is a virtual cd/dvd rom player where you can mount images with. I can’t live without it!

5. Firefox.
I admit it’s a lot better than Internet Explorer, and although I also installed it, I use Maxthon browser for my daily surfing pleasure. I started using Maxthon somewhere in 2004. You can read all about this in my previous post: “Ever heard of Maxthon?”
Firefox I most of the times use for the great plugins it have for when your developing a new website. The Firebug and Web Development tool is a must install tool for FF.

6. AutoIt.
I never heard of this before, but I’m certainly going to take a closer look into it. On first sight it can come in handy for tasks that are always the same.

7. USB Apps.
This can be taken very broadly, but I think he most likely means the portable apps. They surely can come in handy for repairs.

8. TrueCrypt.
If you don’t want that other can read your files, this is the tool to use.

9. Synergy.
With this tool you can use the same mouse and keyboard on multiple pc’s with their own monitor. You just move your mouse pointer from 1 screen/pc to your other screen/pc.
Very handy.

10. CCleaner.
Cleans your temp files and your registry for not needed or used regkey’s.
I use regclean for this, but Regclean doesn’t clean temp files.

In the whole we both use the same or very similar tools, like I expect most of the system engineers will. If you got some other great freeware tools, that are worth a look, leave a comment and I’ll certainly look into it.

Remember from every 5 comments in my Stumbling Friday posts, I’ll choose one winner who’ll get his/her site stumbled by me.

On the last Stumbling Friday post, sadly there was only 1 commentator, but this made it very easy to pick a winner. Thx for the comment Sarah, hope you’ll receive some traffic from my stumble.
