Rewarding commentators

January is almost behind us. I can’t believe how fast time flies by when you’re having fun.

After passing by so many blogs lately (most of them trough the Entrecard widget) , I’ve seen that there are a lot of other blogs out there who have something I don’t have on this blog.
A ‘Top commentators’ section.

So yesterday, I created a little plugin to reward my top commentators with some link love.
The plugin will check for the top commentator for the last month and will start blank every next month.

RSS Hugger also refreshes their list at the beginning of a new month. I subscribed myself 2 weeks back and am listed on the 59th place for the moment in the RSS Hugger Top 100.
With 2 weeks behind on the competition, that’s not bad. Next month I’m going for a Top 30 ranking.

Tomorrow, I’ll implement the Top Commentators section in the right container. Where I don’t know yet, but I’m thinking to place it underneath the Categories section or under the Most Popular section.
Let’s find out if it will bring in more comments to the blog.

Do you have a Top commentators section?
Did you see more comments on your blog once this was implemented?

Win 100.000 Entrecard Credits, 100 days from now !!!

Yes that’s right, in 100 days from now I’m giving away 100.000 Entrecard Credits (EC).

How?
Very easy, just subscribe to my Full feed RSS by e-mail and you’re into the race for winning.
This is step three in my goal to get more RSS readers, after implementing my new design and subcribing myself to RSSHugger.

Why 100 days?
A few days back I wrote down some ideas for a contest. But these where all for 1000 EC or 2500 EC and everyone is having contests like this right now.
Today I thought, think big. cheese , give away 100.000 EC.
So all I needed then was a good title for the contest and 100.000 EC.

The title was easy. “Win 100.000 EC 100 days from now” came out of my head in an instant.
Surprisingly when I took my calendar and counted 100 days further then today I came out on the 6th of May, that’s my Girlfriend’s birthday smile. So I can easily remember this.
But getting to this number will be the challenge as I don’t have 100.000 EC yet.

100.000 EC/100Days = 1.000 EC/day.
As smart as I am,  figured out that in 100 days I can gather 30.000 EC (300 EC/day), the maximum EC you can get right now.

Where are the other 70.000 EC coming from then?
These will come from other Entrecard users.

If you know that the average cards that are dropped is 1 to 3. (1 card you’ll receive for 3 cards you drop), means that I should get 100 carddrops a day from my fellow Entrecard users.
This makes 400 EC per day then. Still 600 to go. :(
But then there’s advertising on my blog. At the moment it costs 149 EC to advertise on my blog /day.
If I’ll get an average of 100 carddrops a day, it will cost 200 EC to advertise on my blog.
This makes 600 EC in total then. Still 400 EC a day to go.
The ideal scenario will be that I get the carddrops on my account to 233/day which will get my advertisement price to 466 EC/day. Taking all in account, after 100 days this will make a total of 99.999 EC. Just 1 EC short then. I’ll donate this one myself cheese

At the moment I’ll still have some advertisement days open, so get them quick before they’ll be costing more.
Quick tip, on the 7th of February, my ad will be displayed on a certain John Chow’s make money online blog. I’m hoping on a lot of visitors that day. Thx for approving John!

Will there be 1 winner with 100.000 EC or will it be divided?
I feel most comfortable with dividing this amount of EC over more than 1 person.
So I thought the following will be fair:

  • First Price: 50.000 EC
  • Second Price: 5.000 EC
  • Nr 3 to 5: 1000 EC
  • Nr 6 to 20: 500 EC
  • Nr 21 to 50: 250 EC
  • Nr 51 to 100: 200 EC
  • Nr 101 to 200: 100 EC

So you’ll get 200 chances to win at least 100 EC.

If you do the math, this still leaves 7000 EC up for the grab.
This is totally up to you. These 7000 EC will go to the one who made the most carddrops on my site during these 100 days. So start dropping today !!! If there’s more than 1 person with the most carddrops, the time you subscribed to my RSS feed will decide who’ll win (The first one who subscribed in other words).

Quite a challenge no?

As stated at the top of this post, you can enter by subscribing to my Full feed RSS.
But you can gain extra tickets also.
Blog about this contest will get you 10 extra chances. Send me a mail with your post’s url to verify.
If you want to contribute with donating some EC’s, your name will be mentioned in every post I’ll make about this contest in the next 100 days. And you’ll get an extra ticket in the raffle for every 50 EC you donate.

What If I reach the 100.000 EC before the 6th of May?
Leave your comment here and tell me what to do, payout instantly or give away more credits on the 6th of May? The majority decides. Also tell me what you think about the contest, will I achieve it?

So let the challenge begin, I almost did my part today, just 54 more drops and I reached the 300 mark for today.
Want your blog in my droplist? Let me know then.

Dumping Adgridwork

A month or so back, I’ve subscribed myself to Adgridwork.
I read on another blog about their service and thought, why don’t I give it a try?
What they do is pretty nice actually. Their some kind of Google Adsense clone, except their totally free.

You can make your own advertisement text which they’ll display on other sites that are subscribed in the Adgridwork network.
How many times your ad is displayed, depends on the times your displaying other ads on your own site.
Blogrush uses the same calculating scheme, except they add some bonus points also.

Because you can’t really customize the ads from Adgridwork, I made the decision to place their ads on the border of my blog. By doing this, I know I wasn’t going to generate much click trough, which will earn you extra points to display your own ads, but I was testing them out to see how much traffic it will generate to my own site. That’s the main purpose.

But after this month of testing I must say that it’s really depressing to see that there were only a few click troughs to my site.

I think that the problem with the Adgridwork ads are that they aren’t that customizable to give them good spots on a site. So why bother with giving valuable ad space up for nothing? I better look into some new advertisement programs then.
After saying bye bye to Blogrush, Adgridwork has to go also.

On the other hand, I see that my tryout with Project Wonderful is worth the space at the moment.
In the beginning I even thought I hit the jackpot when it stated that advertisement on this spot costs $0.80 a day. But the next morning it all went back from $0.04 a day. It all depends on how many are bidding on those ad spaces.

And the traffic generator of the moment is Entrecard. I feel stupid not joining them earlier cheese

In fact, I’m thinking of giving some Entrecard Credits away in some kind of contest.
I have a few ideas in my head that I need to work out a bit, but I’m putting at least 1 contest up to start in February.
If you want to keep updated with this, then please subscribe to my Full Feed RSS by RSS-reader or by e-mail.

Million Dollar Community expands

As from today, we have a new member in our Million Dollar Community.

I would like to welcome Dayjobnuker with his Work from home jobs blog.

A few days back I got to his site trough Entrecard.  When I started to read the site, I saw we had similar goals and interests.
My goal is to make money from my blog, his goal is even a bit harder to reach and that’s stopping his dayjob in 2010.
Initially my real goal was to make sure I earned enough to pay for my hosting and domain name. But I passed that stage a long time ago.
But seeing Dayjobnuker’s latest post regarding his $987,65 check from Clickbank, impresses me.

If you scroll down in his categories, you can find some very useful posts for newbies and affiliate marketing.
A bit lower than the categories header, you can find his links to some interesting blogs. Mine’s in it also now. I’ve just asked if he was willing to exchange some links and pointed him to my officially started the Million Dollar Community post.
The next day I received a positive answer regarding the link exchange. In return I made sure his RSS Feed is running in the Community page of this site.

Dayjobnuker, I wish you the best of luck on your goal and if you need some help, just ask.

If anyone of you is interested in joining, contact me then and I’ll look into your blog. If you make the cut (read starting the Million Dollar community post for al the needed info) , your RSS feed will be featured in the community page to get you some extra traffic.

Which Top Money maker blogs use Entrecard?

In search for some good advertisement spots, I did a little research based on Mark’s Top 100 making money blog.
While searching I’ve created a little list about this. Here you can find their place in the Top 100 and the amount of Entrecard Credits that are needed to get your ad on their site. (That’s if they accept it)

1 Problogger, 312 EC
3 John Chow, 246 EC
17 Blogging Tips 31 EC
23 AdesBlog, 55 EC
24 Carl Ocab, 80 EC
32 Nate Whitehilll, 52 EC
36 Etienne Teo, 22 EC
37 Blog about your blog, 107 EC
42 Pure Blogging, 16 EC
53 Super Blogging tips, 27 EC
59 Mixed Market Arts, 55 EC (Creator of RSSHugger and kind enough to leave a comment on my site) Maybe others in this list will leave a comment also?

62 Winning the web, 42 EC
76 Itswritenow, 211 EC
82 More Merchant, 222 EC
83 Online Presence, 15 EC
86 Daily Moolah, 18 EC
90 SlyVisions, 79 EC
93 Site Fever, 8 EC
100 Life is colourful, 133 EC

You see what I see?
From the Top 20 of making money blogs, only 3 are using Entrecard.
In all, only 19 of Mark’s 45N5 Top 100 blog are using Entrecard. That’s just under 1 out of 5. What’s not that much at all, but maybe the one’s who aren’t using Entrecard, don’t believe in it, don’t need extra traffic or don’t have any extra time to drop some cards? Only they know off course.

For those who are using Entrecard and had an opening in the next few days, I made a bid on them to get my card on their site. So maybe you’ll be seeing my big red ‘Don’t Press’ button on one of the sites you read pretty soon.

On the other hand I also find out that a lot of the top 100 sites are still using Blogrush, but some of them are thinking to get rid of it, like 5xmom, she says it really sucks.
I made a comment on that post telling her I also said bye bye to Blogrush and that there’s an alternative that does bring traffic, which is Entrecard.

So far my experiences with Entrecard are very promising and I would like to thank everyone who recently visited my site and dropped their card here.
I’m making another list to drop my card on these sites in return.

Reminder, there’s still 1 adspot available on the rightbar. If your interested in a month of advertising , read my Entrecard is going fast post.
