CeBit 2008 was fun

Yesterday I went to CeBit in Hannover, Germany. What a long day it was.

One of my colleagues picked me up at my home around 3.45am. From there we went to another colleague and then on our way to Hannover. About 450km later we arrived at CeBit, well on time.
At 9am the doors opened and we could get in. We made a little plan in front, so we figured out which of the 27 hall’s we sure need to see. Every other hall we could see after that where extra cheese

The most impressive stand I’ve seen was the IBM stand, it wasn’t only well designed, and pretty nice, it was also very big!
They displayed their latest mainframe the Z10 and their total Blade and server solutions.

Furthermore we’ve seen some very nice water-cooled racks that will keep a lot of servers very cool without the need of an air-conditioning.

What actually did surprise me was the amount of vendors that where offering the same kind of products.
Being in the IT for almost 9 years now, there where lot’s of vendors I never heard of before.

Last year CeBit welcomed over 400.000 visitors, but I doubt they will top that this year. In just a few hours we went through the halls we planned to see and we didn’t had the impression that there where many visitors there.  After this we visited all the other hall’s and only stopped at those boots that displayed some interesting stuff.
One nice picture I would like to share with you has nothing to do with IT itself, but a fine car like this Cobra is worth a post no matter what topic.

Garmin also displayed their products, so I could take a look at the new Garmin forerunner 405, it has the same features as my Forerunner 305, but it’s a LOT smaller.
This is the first GPS heart rate watch from Garmin that actually looks like a normal watch.  Awesome work Garmin! Maybe I’ll sell mine a buy one myself, but I’m pretty happy with my 305. cheese

Around 5PM we had visited every hall and decide that it was time to go home. On our way back we stopped to get some food and drove another 450km back to home. A long day, believe me smile
