Chambers Trophy 2007 is finished

This morning at 11am we got together at work to prepare ourselves for the 10th edition of the Chambers Trophy.
Like I said in my previous post where I asked for some creative input, we had to dress up with clothing from any country around the world.
I would like to thank everyone who sent me a mail with a suggestion!
We went as Mexican gringo’s. Got a sombrero and a Mexican cape, painted our face a little an went to the Cristal Arena in Genk, where the Chambers Trophy is organized.
Once there we immediately caught the attention of a local TV station TVL. I think it’s because our bottle’s Corona and our Tequila song.
They asked if we can do a little performance before the camera, so we started to sing Mexico, Mexicoooooo,...

At 1pm the Chambers Trophy officially started, we had to start with the ‘Limburg expedition’. This part existed of 6 tests, karaoke (kind of), archery, badminton/sudoku, foam party, go-kart and balance.

  • In the karaoke test 1 person of each team had to sing a song and the other teams had to guess the title and artist. We scored average on this one.
  • Archery speaks for itself, shoot the arrow as close to the ‘bull’ as you can. Also average scoring here.
  • Badminton/Sudoku, 2 players play badminton, 2 players had to solve a Sudoku, when the shuttlecock touches the ground teams must switch. Scored good on this.
  • Foam party, we got 20 words in a local dialect and we had to find the cards with the words in normal dutch in the box with foam. In the meanwhile we had to fit them together. Scored good on this.
  • Go-kart, in a go-kart for 2 people we had to race to a ton of water grab some with the small glasses we got and fill a bucket at the other side of the circuit. Scored good on this although we got 2 penalty points for a reason we didn’t do
  • Balance, on this test we had to balance a wooden log and a stone on a little plate that another teammate had to pull up high in the sky without the stone and wooden log falling of. We scored bad on this one and wasted our Joker to score extra points here.
  • BTW, our other team did very well on this part of the challenges.

At 15u this part ended and we ate a little and prepared for the hardest challenge, the orientation run.
This also has 6 tests, orientation, sjerpa, kayak, taste, transportation and teamwork.

  • Orientation, we had to find 25 points. On every point there’s a picture of a famous building, bridge, mountain, ... of a country. We had to guess the name of this and the country. We only missed 3, so scored very good!!!
  • Sjerpa, 4 people had to wait at 1 tent each, spread-ed across the hill. Then 1 man had to transport a backpack of 20kg to the first tent, give it to the waiting person and go to tent 2, and so on. This one was counted on time and we scored very good here.
  • Kayak, across the lake a couple of wooden stars floated around. We had to remember the letters on them and make a word out of the anagram. Scored 2 out of 5 here.
  • Taste, this was easy, just pick a nr, go to the stand and eat or guess what they offer. But there are stands where they serve maggots, and other not so pretty insects. I had luck, I had to taste a delicious piece of Turkish pizza cheese. We scored good on this.
  • Transportation, here we had to transport weights across a circuit, African style, on the head. We could choose which weight we used, light-weight 5 points, middle weight 10 points, or the heavy 20 points weight. the last one was difficult to handle on the head, because we were only allowed to use one hand to support the weight. So we went for the middle weight. Scored good on this one.
  • Teamwork, here we had to go from one side of the field to the other side, but without touching the ground. Without team work it’s impossible to reach the other side. We scored very good here.
  • Our other team told us that they also scored really well on this part, so they should finish in front of us.
After all the points where calculated we finished 48th out of 92, not bad, but we could have done much better if we didn’t screwed up the first part.

As for our other team, they miraculously scored exactly the same points in total as us, so no winner or loser here. BUT we got 2 penalty points and helped them get another extra point, therefor we claimed our-self to be better then the other team smile

What we had to remeber about today is, that we had a lot of fun, everybody is tired of all the running and we had a lot of TV-coverage. As soon as this is online at their site I’ll post an update.
Now I’m gonna party some more and hopefully sleep very good so I can be fit to play soccer tomorrow morning smile
