Do you still have your Commodore 64?

I do!
I was cleaning out some closets today when suddenly a box caught my attention. That’s my old Commodore 64, oh yeh tongue wink
Quickly set the box aside and cleaned up the rest. Once that was finished, it was childhood memories time!!!
Pulled out my 22 year old C64, my 1541 Floppy Disk drive, a bunch of floppy disks and connected it to an old TV.

It still works!!!!!  cheese
I used to play hours and hours on my C64 as most of the other C64 owners. I still remember the day I got it, a saturday in april, sun was shining, around 21°C outside but no way anyone could get me out of the house that day.
At 1am my mother told me to stop playing, I was 10 years old and should be in bed a long time ago. Not tired at all, I went to bed and a few hours later when everyone was a sleep, this little boy got out of bed and started playing again. At 8am my father asked how long I was awake? Me: “only 30 minutes” LOL

I still remember a lot of games I played back then, California Games (about 12 joysticks wrecked with this game!!!), Outrun, The Gianna Sisters, Defender of The Crown, Blue Max, 1942, ...
A few months later I bought a special cartrigde to speed up load times.
If we went to the library with my class, instead of normal books, I rented a book that explains how to write programs on a C64.
I can honestly say that the C64 changed my life, my computer addiction started back then.

The last time I’ve played on a C64 was via an emulator, CSS64 and a bunch of ROM’s. Although it’s the same output you get, nothing is better then the real deal.

It’s also funny to see how much the computer has evolved, here are a few Commodore 64 specs:

  • Released: September 1982
  • Introduction Price: $595
  • CPU: MOS 6510, 1MHz
  • Sound: SID 6581, 3 channels of sound
  • RAM: 64K
  • Display: 25 X 40 text
  • 320 X 200, 16 colors max
  • Ports: TV, RGB & composite video
  • 2 joysticks, cartridge port
  • external 170K floppy drive
  • OS: ROM BASIC

  • A fun trip on memory lane it was today, anyone of you still have an old C64 somewhere lying around?
Do you still play on it sometimes? I was thinking to give it a special place beside my desk, just for old time’s sake.

    Greetings,

I launched my C64 in 1984, I am AKA: Optimus Prime (P1)! I ran several Commodore SIG’s thoughout South Florida & created the Commodore Nation (which initially started with 12 users & grew to 1,153 & spanned to Georgia & Alabama by 1992)… I was the President & Founder of C.N. & our organization (Empire) was with M.C.U.G. (Michigan Commodore Users Group) as well as our contacts in Germany...wink We were a proud Nation of Commodores, as well as all the other Commodore Users Groups around the nation, NOTHING COULD TOUCH US by a margin & IBM was outnumbered 10 to 1!!! smile I hated IBM’s & their operating systems, but low & behold I’m on an IBM compat running Firefox (which is designed by a couple of former Commodore users <griN>) & decided if you can’t beat’em, JOIN’EM!!! (chuckle)

I also launched the 1st Transformer RPG with permission from then Hasbro Inc. back in 1984 using the same C64… Those were the days…

    ‘Care

    Stephan (P1)
